“Project Stadium” Helps Rubbermaid® Commercial Products Win Sales at Several New Sports Facilities

Unique system-sales approach nets company recent deals at new Great American Ballpark and Orleans Arena

Winchester, Va. (March 10, 2003) – With thousands of sports fans ready to christen the Cincinnati Reds’ Great American Ballpark and the newly constructed Orleans Arena in Las Vegas this spring, one thing is certain – waste containment is in good hands. Thanks to Rubbermaid Commercial Products (RCP) and its unique systems selling approach, “Project Stadium,” visitors at these venues will have no problem finding one of the dozens of waste containers located throughout each sports complex. With its recent deals, RCP’s unorthodox approach to selling has helped the company successfully implement its breadth of waste systems, material handling and food service products in dozens of new stadiums and arenas nationwide.

RCP’s rugged outdoor waste containers will be placed in the main concourse areas and the exterior of both world-class facilities while more classic waste containers will be featured throughout. RCP products were chosen above many of RCP’s strongest competitors.

According to Mark Shuford, End-User Development Manager for RCP’s entertainment and transportation markets, RCP earned the status as specified supplier of waste containers and material handling trucks at the Great American Ballpark and Orleans Arena based on a proven system that starts with thorough needs analysis.

“Stadium management tends to focus on larger issues and product specification often becomes an afterthought,” says Shuford. “So we make a point of sharing our knowledge and expertise with them. We even have our own presentation tool, which really puts the focus on where our products fit into their overall plan and why that choice is right for them.”

RCP’s unique presentation tool, “Project Stadium,” was created for business development managers to show buyers particular areas of a stadium with appropriate RCP products. The locker room, for example, may show properly placed storage containers, cleaning products, and closet organizers. “Project Stadium” is responsible for winning RCP products a place in virtually every stadium contacted and is not offered by any competitors.

Shuford also cites Rubbermaid’s strong brand recognition as an advantage in both sales. “The Orleans management, in particular, had already purchased from a competitor of ours and gave us 24 hours to present our plan. After our presentation, they cancelled the other order and went exclusively with RCP. That’s a testament to everyone’s hard work, and of course, a strong product line.”

“Project Stadium” has helped RCP place its products in many sporting facilities, including most recently: the new Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Mass. (New England Patriots Football); American Airlines Arena, Dallas (Dallas Mavericks Basketball and Dallas Stars Hockey); Heinz Field, Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Steelers Football); new Soldier Field, Chicago (Chicago Bears Football); renovated Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wis. (Green Bay Packers Football); Seattle Seahawks Stadium, Seattle; Reliant Stadium, Houston (Houston Texans Football); Comerica Park, Detroit (Detroit Tigers Baseball); PNC Park, Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball); and Invesco Field, Denver (Denver Broncos Football).
